I. Product Introduction
The polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) weight is a product similar to a weighing weight, machined from PTFE material. Its mass and dimensions are specified by the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It is used in conjunction with a glass tube and forceps to measure the friability of medicinal hollow capsules.
II. Product Parameters
1. Polytetrafluoroethylene Weight – Special for Hollow Capsules as specified in the Pharmacopoeia. Specification: 20g, diameter: 22mm.
2. Material: Experimental-grade high-purity polytetrafluoroethylene, featuring corrosion resistance, resistance to high and low temperatures, insulation, and non-stick surface. Machined from PTFE extruded material.
III. Product Application
Application: As specified for "hollow capsules" in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. (This device consists of a PTFE weight and a glass tube. Place the sample hollow capsule at the bottom of the glass tube, then drop the weight freely onto the hollow capsule from above, and observe the degree of rupture of the hollow capsule.)
IV. Usage Notes
A weight with qualified mass accuracy and dimensions (specification: 20g, diameter: 22mm) shall be used. The head of the weight shall be shaped like that of an ordinary weighing weight to facilitate gripping by forceps during operation. The glass tube should be approximately 20cm long (custom weights are available). The forceps are preferably PTFE forceps, with their clamping design matching the weight head.
V. Testing Example
Testing of brittleness of gelatin hollow capsules: Take 50 samples of this product, place them in a watch glass, transfer to a desiccator containing a saturated magnesium nitrate solution, and incubate at a constant temperature of 25±1℃ for 24 hours. Remove them, and immediately place each capsule individually into a glass tube (inner diameter: 24mm, length: 200mm) that is vertically placed on a wooden board (thickness: 2cm). Drop the cylindrical weight (made of polytetrafluoroethylene, diameter: 22mm, weight: 20g) freely from the mouth of the glass tube. Check whether the capsules rupture; if any rupture occurs, no more than 5 capsules shall be ruptured.
